Meet the June 2017 Student of the Month
International Student: Jiakai Jia (Cooper)
Cooper is a junior from Zhengzhou, Henan, China double majoring in Organizational Leadership and Business Administration. On campus, he is involved with Enactus, in 2015 he was elected as the vice-captain and participated in 5 strategic projects with some major companies like Johnson, Chow tai Fook, Schneider Electric, and Dell. Through Enactus, he has been able to practice what he has learned in class. Cooper is also interested in animal care; he volunteers with the China Small Animal Protection Association and goes to the Animal Protection Center regularly to help the homeless dogs and cats. Cooper also likes listening to music and playing the guitar. Cooper got involved with the department because leadership is the main skill he wanted to gain from college. In the future, he would like to open his own business and it is important to know how to lead employees effectively. Cooper says leadership can be cultivated through education and he wants to increase his capability of leadership and become an effective leader through his classes. So far, Cooper's favorite class has been Principles of Civic Leadership. The content was presented in film which the instructor further explained. The relaxed classroom environment enabled Cooper to better retain the information and the feedback on the assignments analyzed the positive points and what could be improved on.
